The 156th Anniversary Reenactment of the Seven Days Campaign
- In the spring of 1862, the cry “On to Richmond” was echoed by Union troops moving towards the Confederate capital under General George B. McClellan. These troops hoped to end the Civil War by capturing the city. What they weren’t expecting was the aggressive tactics of General Robert E. Lee, new to command of the army tasked with defending Richmond. The “Seven Days” battles produced some of the deadliest battles seen in the war up to that point and gave many soldiers their first taste of battle.
